Through its pilot project, COMIBOL’s Bolivian National Evaporite Deposits Division seeks to:

Optimize processes to industrialize the brine in the Salar de Uyuni, in order to obtain lithium, potassium, boron and magnesium products.
|
|
|
Produce and sell by-products from the brine: lithium carbonate, potassium chloride, potassium sulphate, magnesium chloride and boric acid.
|
|
|
Quantify the reserves of evaporite minerals in Bolivia’s different salt flats, in order to define mining areas for future, large-scale projects.
|
|
|
Improve access roads, transport, the electricity and drinking water supply and health facilities in the Río Grande area to assist production processes in the pilot plant and, in future, the lithium factory complex.
|
|
|
Carry out the engineering study to finalize the design of the lithium factory complex.
|
|
|
Study the environmental impact and determine mitigation measures for the larger plant.
|
|
|
Train skilled technical staff in brine processing.
|
|
|
Support regional and community initiatives to industrialize other evaporite elements such as washed ulexite, borax decahydrate and sodium carbonate.
